The Rathmichael Historical Society was founded in 1972 and, for over 40 years, has provided lectures, outings and courses in Archaeology and History to the people of South County Dublin and, indeed, a much wider area.
Starting in 1975, the Society ran for a number of years a hugely successful course in Field Archaeology, initially organised by the late Joan Delany.
Each year in Spring and Autumn it has programmes of talks, and there is a week of August lectures around some particular theme. On the Wednesday of that week we celebrate the life and work of Leo Swan, an archaeologist whose help to the society in its early days was immeasurable.
The Society also runs a weekend trip to an area of archaeological interest - in 2013 we went to Roscommon and saw Boyle and Rindown..
