Weekend Trip to Waterford

April 27,28,29 2012

The trip was a great success. Donnchadh Ó Ceallacháin gave us a fascinating lecture on Woodstown on the Friday night, a most most informative and enjoyable tour of the city walls on Saturday morning, and finished off by leading us around the recently opened Bishop's Palace Museum of Treasures.

Sunday, on the way home we stopped to see Granny Castle and the strange, and fast disappearing, Lickettstown clachans. A gentleman very kindly allowed us to see inside one of them - it was like stepping back into the past.

Finally Ger Crotty and his colleagues in the Portlaw Heritage Centre gave us a short tour of the village, followed by a most informative presentation.

All in all a great weekend!
