About the Society

The Rathmichael Historical Society was founded in 1972 and, for nearly 40 years, has provided lectures, outings and courses in Archaeology and History to the people of South County Dublin and, indeed, a much wider area.

Starting in 1975, the Society ran for a number of years a hugely successful course in Field Archaeology, initially organised by the late Joan Delany.

Each year in Spring and Autumn it has programmes of talks, and there is a week of August lectures around some particular theme - in 2009 it was on the transition to Christianity.

The Society also runs a weekend trip to an area of archaeological interest - in 2010 we went to Kilmallock

See the Spring Lecture series for details of the postponement of the AGM
