A sad weekend for the ballad & folk music lovers all around the world to hear of the passing of Liam Clancy RIP 4th Dec 2009.
Although he was a most famous member of the Clancy brother and Tommy Makem group of the sixties we will always remember Liam from his performing years with Tommy Makem as Makem & Clancy the fabulous duo who belted out great songs of Irish history and folklore with the subtle rendition of the classic ballads and slow airs.
I always remember back in 1978 believe it or not that Liam Clancy singing ’Waltzing Matilda’ was at number 1 in the Irish charts for most of the summer that year. The old Central bar in Swords now ‘The Slaughtered Lamb’ had an upstairs pool lounge and Liam Clancy’s’ Waltzing Matilda would be played on the jukebox several times in a night.
Pigs crubeens to be eaten at the Galway races Liam belted out in a Concert in Birkenhead UK not too far from Liverpool. We had the pleasure of that concert back in 1979 when this duo were starting out and probably at their best fresh and exciting. We will be cheering for our neighbours next week so C’mon the Royals, we love to see you advance to the semi final and a clash with the Kingdom.
Next week we will be back in Killians in Naul and we expect to have a great night as the local Clan Mhuire GAA club will be playing neighbours Ballyboughal in the Pat Walsh cup in Ballyboughal at 7pm.
Weekend 27th July
Friday 24th July 1959 that was a special day in the Walker family from Kilsalaghan when baby Margaret was born and the life as we know it changed forever. Mags was celebrating with her family and friends with several of her cousins who travelled from UK to join her on the night in Hollywood Lakes Golf Club for her 50th B’day.
We got the party started early evening with the live music session to be followed by DJ Pete Divine to take the party into the early hours.Plenty of requests for songs from the ’Dubliners’ and the Clancy’s we were singing the ’Garden song’ in the hope that we might get a bit of fine weather.
Mags friend ’Noddy’ came home from Spain to celebrate with her and reminisce on years ago and the Rolestown Inn and the great Fri nights with MD for many years, those were the days my friends, la,la…etc.
Pictured L is Noddy and Denny looking great on the Spanish sunshine.Next week we will be in Whyte’s Stamullen on the bank holiday Sunday night, not to be missed always a great venue and atmosphere in this venue and is also a great restaurant for those who like to dine out in style with great value.
Weekend 20th July
The weekend got off to a flying start as we played at the wedding of Richie and Katie in the afternoon reception in Roganstown Hotel.
The lounge was in flying form and by the end of the session at 5pm we could have play another hour for this lively audience. However the bell was rang and the guests duly headed of for the wedding breakfast and what was to be memorable night for the families.
So! off to O’Connor’s in Ballyboughal on Friday night. The occasion was Gus Delaney’s 70th birthday and plenty of Gus’s family and friends gathered to celebrate with the puzzler on the night. With three banjos three guitars two bodhrans and any amount of singers this was certainly going to be a great night of singing and music and Gus graced us with his unique bit of sean nos dancing the crack was brilliant.
Pictured is brothers and sisters Marie, V, Gus and Ann all in great singing form.Saturday night in Whyte’s Stamullen and we had a full house early in the night with some visitors from Yorkshire in UK who had a few request from the Beatles, well who else.
Plenty of crack on the night

Thursday 5th July 1979, and it was Morning Dew’s first gig in the Old Mill Rush and the start of what was to be journey of life through music and song.
We have made friends along the way who we still have contact with today and we are so grateful for all the great times and the good health we have had throughout the last 30years.
We have now played in four decades 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and now the naughties.
We were in Nealons in Skerries on Saturday night with a full house and a great party atmosphere with the motorcycle races on over the weekend. Many friends in on the night and some who even remember us from the Lords Mayors in Swords from the 80’s. Great buzz about the place and the gig was a special one as we announced that we were together now for 30 years.
Even before we announced anything Davy a lifelong friend said to us before we started that we must be about 30 years on the go as he remembered us in the Holmpatrick Hotel back in 1979, so how surprised he was when we told
him it was actually our anniversary on the 5th July, we even sang it in the ’Irish Rover’. Plenty of MD fans in on the night and it was great to see them all.
Sunday evening we headed to the Lord mayors in Swords for the 6-8 session which went on to 11.30 a bit of a marathon, but a special celebration once again, as friends from Finglas, Ballyboughal and Swords joined in to wish us all the best on our celebration.
We had our families with us also on the evening and everyone had a great o’ul time. We played so many songs and we had singers from around the house, Jimmy Finnegan got into the session with his mouth organ and also gave us a song.
Many thanks to all the musicians around the table who stuck it out into the late evening, hope we can do it again soon, as we say ‘keep her lit’, and if you want to have good doo, get the Morning Dew!Weekend 28th June
The Kinsealy Inn was a buzzing venue on Saturday night with an audience that seemed want allot of rebel ballads all night.
Plenty of favourites on the night included ’James Connolly’, ’Kevin Barry, ’The Black n’Tans, I’m sure you have the picture.
We also sang some classic country including ’My best friend’ ’Low places’ the list goes on and we were happy to oblige.
All roads should have led to Croker on Sunday but I found myself in
Punchestown down for the AC/DC concert, which has to have been the best ever concert that I have ever been to. It brought back memories of ’The memories’ from the 70’s who used to cover a few AC/DC numbers at the time, where are they now? It was just fantastic to hear the real thing.About 100k people must have been in Punchestown never mind the official numbers as anyone who was there.
Next week MD will be in Skerries in Nealons on the Saturday night.
This is the motor cycle race weekend and we look forward to meeting all the race supporters in Nealons on the night.

A lively audience on the night the most of which I would have thought would be gone to Slane, but no, they came to hear the MD and enjoy a great night of ballads and bit of Cajun country and that’s not a Chinese dish.
Garth Brooks was requested so many times we sang ’The dance’, and ’Low Places’, what a great reception these two songs got, it must be the hot weather that brings out the country in people.
Many favourites were also sang on the night, including ’leaving Nancy’, for Christy & Elaine who were enjoying seeing MD for the first time, so guys hope to see you at another gig soon.
Sunday evening and we had a great session 6-8 n the Lord Mayors Swords.

Later in the evening the Ring commons Sport club raffled off two of their six month draw tickets which are great value with great prizes.
Ted Tony and Christy were debating who would win the match with the Dubs and Meath on Sunday in the fist round of the championship in Croke Park, the Dubs won this one but made hard work of it with so many missed chances they could have won several games. Our night had to include plenty of Dublin songs for luck and we even sang the ’Beautiful Meath’, for our neighbours which might bring them luck in the future.

Many of the regulars were away for the weekend, some were just out all day at the beeches etc and were probably burnt out and too tired to go out on the Saturday night.
This was a bank holiday weekend in Ireland and were really enjoying the Mediterranean weather we were having, so lets enjoy it while it lasts.

Weekend 30th November
The little royal county village of Cloughertown between Garristown and Naul is where we were last Sat Night. Starting off on a quite note I could see that this session could be a one of the classy ones where you sing all the favourite songs of people who appreciate the finer songs in life.
Starting off with the ’Flower of Scotland’ a song we have not sang for some time I had just had the words out of my mouth that we should sing it more often as it s a lovely ballad when the doors opened and in came the Oldtown Indian, yes ’Indian’ he is a bit of an icon now among the winning GAA football teams who take their trophy’s on tour and this time it was the turn of the Garristown footballers who had won their league on Fri night and so they were celebrating on tour, having visited the Oldtown Hse they borrowed the Indian and took him along for the party, I think he loves it.
Jacinta and Rosie were just back from shopping in Dublin and were making sure they didn’t miss this MD gig as it is the last one in Cloughertown before Xmas.
We really rallied the audience on the night and kept them going with all the rousing ballads and a bit of Garth Brookes etc…
So next week we will be back in McCormack’s Balscadan we haven’t been there since early in the year but we will be looking forward to catching up with all our fans in this little gem of a village between Naul & Balbriggan, we hope you can get along and enjoy a night out with us and give us some requests.
Weekend 23rd November
‘Ireland my Ireland’ was the cry all around the Hills Cricket Club last Fri night as local songwriter and musician Martin Byrne launched his debut CD.
Martin was joined by a huge crowd of family friends and musicians at the launch of his first CD. Gerry Simpson who produced the disc from his recording studio in Drogheda was there on the night, along with several musician friends of Martin who made it along to make it a wonderful night of music and song, which delighted the audience on the night.
The duelling banjo duo of Ted from Morning Dew and Tommy Greeley formally of the Irish Travellers were enjoying the moment and certainly gave us some fantastic entertainment on the night.
Many supporters travelled from surrounding areas this pair Paudge from Skerries and Josie from Swords we in fine singing voice on the night.
Martin gave a first class performance of his songs and also gave an excellent narrative of each one which was a very informative insight to songwriters wonderful ability to turn real life experiences into melodic meaningful songs that only a true minstrel can do.
The culmination of work would not have been possible without the support and encouragement of family and Martin paid particular tribute to his wife Patricia pictured here in the wine coloured jacket. We wish Martin the very best of success in the future and we look forward to seeing him soon at a venue in the north county.
Weekend 16th November
Back on the road last Saturday night in Killians in Naul where a full house awaited us on the night. No sign of recession on this night a great audience rearing for a good night out.
We had a slight delay in starting as the Irish boxer Bernard Dunne was fighting live in Dublin and it was on Donal’s big screen in the lounge. Dunne won the fight as it was stopped in the 10th round.
We started straight into the session with the ‘Flight of the Earls’ and this set the tone for the night plenty of good rousing songs to please the crowd.
The biggest reception on the night was for ‘Green fields of France’ young Willie McBride, this one had the whole pub singing together we were even asked to sing it again at the end of the night, but for those of you who know MD we don’t repeat any song on the night, you have to be there to appreciate it in the moment.
Next week we will be back in the Royal county in the village of Stamullen where Brendan and his staff in ’Whytes Bar’ will be on hand to serve you not only good drink but also great food in their restaurant, well worth a visit.

Surprise surprise! And happy birthday Charlie, a great gathering of
family and friends to celebrate Charlie Carroll’s 60th B’day.
The Millmount House was the venue, and we had a fantastic reunion with some fans from the ’Rolestown Inn’ Friday nights many years ago.
Ellen, pictured here with Charlie had the room well decorated with pictures and buntings for the night.
Plenty of requests on the night for some old favourites we even had to revive ‘Alice’, at one stage, its was a bit of crack., and great to see so many friends again.

Kinsealy Inn on Saturday night and the audience was a small select few compared to the normal Sat night out. With two big games on in the afternoon took the sting out of the night session.
June, Veronica and Dolores were enjoying the music and we had some different requests on the night.
The Bunch of Thyme, was requested I cant remember when we last sang it, probably about two years ago. This was a very enjoyable session we most of the requested ballads being covered on the night.

We had a fantastic audience around us at the reception and we also had some excellent requested songs on the afternoon.
The bride and groom were greeted with ‘The voyage’ a very fitting song and one that we all hope will aspire to their long married life together.
Plenty of hand clapping and sing along on the afternoon and we duly played the duelling banjo’s for martin before the bell was ringing for the guests to take their seats for the wedding breakfast.
Pictured is Martin and Lisa after the session with MD, you might notice the beautiful view from the bay window out to Dublin bay and it was so much more special as the afternoon was a beautiful sunny one.

Weekend 17th August
McCormack’s in Balscadan was the venue for Friday night the 15th August and the annual holiday evening following the pattern in the village.
A large crowd in on the evening for the gig and the atmosphere was one of a holiday mode even though the weather would have us all a bit down , it was a dull dark evening but MD brightened that all up wit a good session on the night.
A big group of fans in from the Naul who stayed on for the nights music. David was heading off to Australia and a great group of family and friends were turned out to wish him well.
Wedding bells are chiming for Martin and Lisa who will be tying the knot next Friday.

Great evening for a Bar-B-Q and some C&W music provided by Paddy Byrne with his own brand of country music mix on Guitar with the aid of some classy backing tracks.
Pictured is Ted & Carol on the night, Ted was also celebrating his birthday and we had to sing a little for him also.

These three cowgirls Bernie, Josie & Sally from Skidoo were having a great time and doing plenty of yahooing.
V and Patricia were enjoying the music and looking for some line dancing from Paddy on the night.
Later in the evening a large group of Carols’ musician friends gathered around the tables and sang until the early morning.
Pictured is a rare musician John Piper on the Banjo, he was strumming out to some C&W songs when I got this picture of him in his musical role.
Brothers Al and Ted were having a joke after 12’Oclock as it was then Al’s birthday although I don’t think you would need to pour the pints into Al he is well able to do that himself.
Saturday Night and we were back in Killians in Naul and we had a fantastic night out with a great audience on the night. Its always a good sign if customers are inclined to start dancing after your third song on the night and that was the way it was.
We met up with Noel and Kathleen who we haven’t seen for some time, but now they know we are in their local every few weeks we expect to see much more of them.
All the usual classic ballads were requested on the night and we had to revive the Banna Strand for Joe before we finished.

His brothers niece’s and nephews arranged his party to make up for all the missed one's along the way, 18th 21st 40th some people reckoned he was celebrating his 100th and if he ever does I hope MD will be booked to play for him.
Pictured is Paddy singing it’s a bit dark, but if any of you out there have a couple of photos from the gig send them on to morningdew@dublin.ie
It was a fantastic family gathering and not just because we were playing the gig, I’m glad the family booked a live ballad group for Patrick.
No sparing on the rebel songs we had to sing all the classics ’James Connolly’, ’Boys of the ould brigade’, ‘Black N’tans’, and espically for Paddy ‘On the one Road and A nation Once Again’, great music and not for the faint hearted, it was a great party.

Monday 7th July
They say it never rains but it pours and that was true of last weekend when Ireland was a washout with rain weekend, the worst night being the Saturday when we were showered on for hours on end. This didn’t however spoil the party, after all we are Irish and we don’t let things get us down too easily.
Silver wedding anniversary celebrations took place in the Rath in Rolestown when,
Pat and Margaret Rathcliff celebrated their 25th with family and friends.
This celebration was made so special with family travelling from Co. Leitrim for the occasion, and indeed we sang the lovely Leitrim for them all [twice], it was well worth it.
Pat played a lovely tribute to his family of three children and his wife Margaret in when acknowledging that he may provide the bricks and slates for the home but the family espically Margaret, makes the home.
Aunty, and Godmother, Margaret Healy travelled from Leitrim and sang two beautiful songs with us, ’she moves through the fair’, and ’Cliffs of Dooneen’, and for a lady in her late eighties she was note perfect, it was a pleasure to be part of her performance.
Neighbours the Hutchinson’s were in great form,
pictured is Ted with Joe, propping up the bar, as normal, Joe sang ’Praying for rain in California’, this was a bit of a tonic considering it was pouring down as he sang it, it was great crack and the audience danced and loved it.
The night did however clear off enough for us to dance the night away and really have a great time, with no shortage of good pints and food.
This is a whole new trend now for people to have the party at home, get the marquee, cans or the keg, a bit of grub and the ‘Morning Dew’ and you will surly have a great night to remember.
Next week were playing in The Kinsealy Inn, a great venue for a ballad session on the
Feltrim Road just outside Swords.
Hope you can make it along, and say hello or give us a request.
Monday 30th June
Were you in Stamullen on Saturday night, if you missed it, you missed one of the best singing sessions in a long time between a group and it audience.
Full house on the night and the atmosphere was electric, everyone was in great form, with Royal county clan at the bar, and around the fireplace getting their slagging in ahead of the Leinster semi final with Dublin & Westmeath.
This was a great singing audience , which we recognised early on when we sang songs like, ‘Simplicity’ and what a chorus we had on the ‘Ould Triangle’, pictured is the crowd singing at full steam on the night.
We sang the ‘Beautiful Meath‘, with ‘Molly Malone’, and revved up the night with the ’Tractor Song’ and ‘Some say the divil is dead’, but to cap it all off, just when the thought it was all over we lashed out ’Dirty old town’, and then finished off with ’Dublin in the rare ould times, to a great chorus from the audience.
The Dubs went on to win the semi final on Sunday and now face Wexford in the Leinster Final, we’ll have to brush up on a Wexford song ahead of that game.
We will be back in Whytes on Sat 16th August and we will continue the saga from there.
Next week we are playing at a Private function over the weekend.
The Skerries Road races will be on over the weekend 5th July and no doubt the ‘Devils Disciples’ will have their gig in the ‘Man-O-War’ on Saturday night, should be a blast , not for the faint hearted and be prepared to stay the distance.
Sat 12th July and we will be back in the Kinsealy Inn and looking forward to meeting up with the rebels and having a good sing song on the night.
Monday 16th June
Round Tower’s Lusk GAA club what the party venue for the celebration of Des Browne’s 4oth Birthday.
A large gathering of family and friends on the night and MD supplying the music. Des loves the ballads and the more rebel songs the better.
Jade and Aisling designed this lovely poster saying happy b’day to Des.
The crowd were all in great form, so much so that at the interval you would think that the party was coming to its climax and not only half time.
Susan helped Des with the blowing of the candles and there was great cheering and of course the obligatory 40 kisses.
Many fans we haven’t seen in a long time at this gig, and it was like the 80’s all over again, reminiscing of the days Euro 88 and Italia 94, and of course all the Dubs games in between. We rounded off with plenty of dancing to the sounds of ‘Neil Diamond’ and Joe Dolan’ and to cap it off with ‘Some say the divil is dead’. The Round Towers is looking all the better from a new facelift to the club bar, and a very friendly atmosphere.
Saturday we were in Killians in Naul, where we had a great session to a full house on the night. Plenty of request her for favourite ballads like ’Follow me up to Carlow and Leaving Nancy’, the list was certainly different on the night.
There were a couple Royal County of Jibes from the ’badger’ but we took it all in great spirit, we even sang the ’Beautiful Meath ’ for him, any thing to ease the pain of being out of the Leinster Championship, which we duly reminded them of.
Next weekend we have a couple of private gigs, and we hope to be at Eric Clapton in Malahide Castle on the Saturday night.
Contact us on the home page by phone or e-mail.
The greeting from Ciaran in Australia was shown on the big screen on the night with the help of the laptop. Fantastic celebrations on the night with MD playing from 9pm until about 11.30 the DJ kicked in to take the party on to 1am or so.We were in in the bar in Whytes on the sat night ,you would thing we would be tired of the same venue again but the opposite is the case. We had a great audience in the bar on Sat night and we sang songs we haven’t covered for a long time. Always a great atmosphere in Whytes and great food to boot. The function room upstairs should be checked out if your thinking of having a party there was a wedding party there on Sat Night and our pals the Dicy’s were playing at it. They managed to get the last half hour of MD before the headed home.
Next week we are in the Kinsealy Inn on Saturday night and we return to Nealons in Skerries for Easter Sunday night which is always a great venue for MD.
