Glenalbyn Masters
About the Club

About the Club

Glenalbyn Masters is based at Glenalbyn Swimming Pool, a six-lane 33-metre pool, in Stillorgan, Co. Dublin.  The Club is linked to the wider Kilmacud Glenalbyn Sports Club which has a number of components including Kilmacud Crokes GAA Club, Glenalbyn Tennis Club, Glenalbyn Water Polo Club and Glenalbyn Swimming Club (for younger swimmers).  There is also a bar, gym, function rooms and other facilities on the site.  (see www.glenalbyn.ie).

The Club currently has about 170 members of all ages and is affiliated to Swim Ireland.  The Club won the Women's Club of the Year award in 2009 in the Leinster Open Sea Committee's season of sea swims and came third in the Men's Team of the Year competition.  One of our women members also won the 2009 Liffey Swim and the women won the Liffey team prize.  We have also had winners at international events such as the 2010 Lake Zurich Marathon Swim.

Training Sessions

There are two training sessions a week at the pool for members only - Tuesday Morning at 7.00 a.m. (all year round) and Sunday Morning at 8.00 a.m. (except summer months) - but most members also participate in the open coaching sessions run by Glenalbyn Pool.  In particular, the Monday and Thursday morning open 9.00 sessions are very popular with many members regularly attending.  Coffee is available after these particular sessions with the proceeds going to help support the Club.  (See link to pool timetable on links page.)

Many members just train for the benefits of keeping fit and for the social aspects but many others are more competitive, in both open sea swimming and galas.  (See results page.)

 New Members Welcome

The Club is very interested in attracting new members of all ages but would especially welcome younger members.  The Club organises one of the sea swims on the Open Sea Calendar and special prizes are available for those competing in the younger age groups.   If you are interested in joining, you can contact the Club by sending an email to mmcguire@dublin.ie.  An application form can be emailed to you, filled in and returned to 'The Membership Secretary, Glenalbyn Masters, c/o Glenalbyn Swimming Pool, Stillorgan, Co. Dublin' or left behind the front desk of the pool in a sealed envelope.  Non-competitive membership is €40 per calendar year and competitive membership is €70.  Cheques should be made payable to 'Glenalbyn Masters Swimming Club'.
