Buion Clothra Guides

History

Buion Clothra Guides was established in 1932 and is one of the oldest companies in Ireland.  We have been running constantly during the last 74 years, so we think we might have a little rest next April for our 75th Anniversary.

Some of our original members are still involved and one of them recently celebrated her 90th Birthday. Congratulations May McGrath from everyone at Buion Clothra.

We are hoping to get stories over the coming months from our members past and present.  So come back soon to see what we've been up to for the last 75 years.

If you are a past member and you have a story that makes you laugh, cry or giggle and you would like to pass it on to us, please send us an email with the details.  We would like to put together a book of stories, photos & poems of our 75 year history.  If you do not have access to email send your story to Dublin Headquarters for the attention of Buion Clothra Guides.

75th ANNIVERSARY
1932 - 2007

Sunday 29th April was a beautiful day and a very special day. Today we celebrated our 75th Anniversary.  A thanksgiving mass was celebrated in Beaumont Church and then all the guests made their way into St. Fiachra's senior school hall to be entertained by the Guides and Brigins.  The highlight of the entertainment was the fashion show.  This was no ordinary fashion show.  It brought us back in time through the various uniforms worn by all Guides during our 75 year history.  The audience howled with laughter as they remembered some of the outfits they wore during their guiding days.  The Guides then performed 'company drill', an old favourite which I'm sure most of them loved to hate.  Everyone then enjoyed a cup of tea and a sandwich or a slice of cake as they scanned the walls for embarrasing photos of themselves while they caught up with old friends.

Finally the day was brought to an end with a presentation to past leaders, prize giving to the current Guides and a short campfire.

We would like to thank everyone who joined us on the day. It was a very special occassion and we are very grateful for all the help we received before, during and after the event from parents, friends, past members and our own families.

Thank you also to the Guides and Brigins for all the work they put into their rehearsals for the mass and entertainment.  We would also like to congratulate the Cygnet section as they celebrate their 10th Anniversary.

To the several thousand Guides who have passed through our doors during the last 75 years we hope you enjoyed your days with Buion Clothra and to the future leaders of the company we wish you the best of luck.
