No game this weekend we have to go back to last October for the last time we couldn’t play due to heavy rain, which is an amazing weather record.
Happy special birthday to Club member Marie Delaney who was born in 19 twelve under par, work it out for ourselves.
We will continue next week with the adult game on Sunday morning 11am.
Coming soon will be the Bartle Maxwell shield and confined to the Gents a date in February to be confirmed.

A morning not for the faint hearted but lovers of the game as we played in brisk wind, lovely and dry, but a little cold for some. A great turnout with the first pairs game of the new year bringing in some great close scores. Two pairs on 44, two on 42 and the winning pair having to be separated by a back nine (B9) count.

Blessed spring weather all over the country after what was a stormy week and we had a great morning for P&P at the club.
This week we played a three ball 27hole scramble and the competition was really close with two teams on 69 and a leading team on 67 when the final group brought in a fantastic 63.
This weeks winners in the 27hole scramble were Steven Rowe, Jimmy Browne, Mary Terry and Maura Lynch with a fantastic gross 63.

First Sunday and first game of the new year and we had great weather with high winds and sunshine. Although it was a little chilly it was near perfect weather for winter play.

The end of year game for turkeys this week with the weather a little milder and no wind worth talking about. A great turnout for the final day’s play after what was a fantastic year for the club. We got to play every weekend since the snow cleared last January. Happily we didn’t have that severe snow and frost that we had last year.

Great turnout this Sunday morning with the weather a little chilly light sharp breeze did not deter these turkey hunters. Fourteen pairs contested a very tight game with only one stroke separating the top four pairs.
This weeks turkey winners after a great round of net 36 were Gabriel Bergan & Mary Terry.
Next week will be the final Turkey competition and all prizes winners can collect their vouchers on the morning.

What a contrast to the end of November compared to 12 months ago when we were covered in ice and snow, we have had a great month of Xmas turkey games and we hope to have another two before the big day.

Another great weekend across the country with the blessed weather as mild as it can be at 14 degree this morning. Lots of growth around the course , member Pat Hickey said he saw primroses in bloom in a ditch close to his home. We have several yellow roses in full bloom along by the 18th hole great to see it and it will surly shorten our winter.

What a great spell of weather we are having all cross the country as we are gripped in a high pressure giving us some very mild days. Sixteen degrees in the car on the way to the Sunday morning turkey game and we were able to play in our jumpers.

After the clock going back last night the morning was a fabulous bright sunny morning.
A great three ball game over 27 holes was very closely contested the top two teams were separated by one stroke.

A fantastic finale to the McDonnell cup when we played the final leg of the 36 hole competition in Ring Commons on Saturday.
With several players capable of putting great scores this was always going to be a close contest. The final placings were decided on a back nine count to separate the winner and runner up.
Winner Tommy McCann Net 96 [OB9] R/Up Frank Hughes Net 96 Third place went to John Fitzpatrick with Net 99.

The third round of the McDonnell cup took place in trim on Saturday. With the course playing to full winter conditions we had a great day with only a light drizzle of rain near the end of the game.
Trim winner was Pat Hickey Net47 (B9) R/Up John Fitzpatrick Net 47.
The final game in the McDonnell cup takes place next Saturday at Ring Commons sports ground at 3.30pm. Meet at the club in Ballyboughal at 2.45 for lifts.

The second round in the George McDonnell Cup played in Laytown on Saturday produced some fantastic scores on what was a glorious warm day but with high winds.
A net 51,52 53 and eight 54’s were a measure of how competitive the game was.
The Mc Donnell Cup Laytown result was Winner Rory Homan Net 51 R/Up Gerry Levins net 52.
The next game in the McDonnell Cup takes place in Trim next Saturday 15th Oct at 3pm meet at the club in Ballyboughal 2pm to arrange lifts.

Congratulations to Cian Delaney on his achievement bringing home a bronze medal from the ITU World Games in Gijon Spain.
Weather nearly spoilt the first round of the George McDonnell Cup with persist ant rain over Fri and Sat we had to postpone the first round match to Sunday Morning when we got to play just ahead of the rain returning.
The second game in the McDonnell Cup will be played Next Saturday in Laytown P&P Club at 3pm players needing a lift should meet at the club in Ballyboughal at 2.30pm.

All Ireland weekend and Up the Dubs, with our minor and senior teams contesting all Ireland finals in coke park. The village is a wash of blue bunting for to support our county teams.
Sunday game at the club produced a cracking Net 44 for winner Vince Walker with R/Up John Fitzpatrick Net 45 only loosing by one stroke.
The last club major for 2011 is the New George McDonnell Memorial Cup to be played over four games with the first game on Saturday 1st Oct at 3pm.

The annual Golf challenge took place to Balheary GC Par3 course on what was a glorious but very windy Saturday as gale force winds crossed the country.

This years winners was Team Capt Steven Rowe, Tommy McCann, Martin Cullen and Jim Gallagher with 61 Gross.

What a fantastic show of support for Ballyboughal athlete Cian Delaney ahead of his world championship attempt in Gijon Nth Spain on Sunday 26th September. After fundraising ’Pitch In’, was organised and support from family friends neighbours work colleagues and the greater community of Ballyboughal this was truly a great show of support for this young man in his quest to bring success back to Ballyboughal.

Sunday’s adult singles produced a first time win for Frank Hughes with a net 47. Closely followed by the smallest of margins by RU Maura Lynch Net 48. These two players were only one stroke better than the next best card of 49, 50 and several 52’s.
The three ball scramble following the singles game produced a new course record of 42 gross which included nine holes at gross 19 and was scored by Jimmy Browne, Frank Hughes, Joan Homan & Ann McDonnell. The card also included a hole in one on the 13th from Ann McDonnell her second hole in one in three weeks.

Friday nights ladies had to be abandoned after nine holes due to a thunder storm the entries will be credited for next Friday 17th.
No Sunday game this weekend due to the bad weather unfortunately the rain came about an hour too early for us to start a game and with that cold NE wind conditions were not suitable for P&P.

Family Weekend at the club and lots of activities over the weekend for all member of the family.
Starting on Friday night the Ladies night produced a very close game with one stroke separating the top two players. Ladies winner was Ann McDonnell net 48 and RU Patricia Delaney Net 49.
The adults game over the Sunday morning and bank holiday afternoon produced record breaking scores for a club singles major.
Adult winner was club chairman Rory Homan Net 42 with his first ever club major win. Runner up was Ann McDonnell Net 43 by the closet of margins, these were two exceptional scores on the day and congratulations to Ann McDonnell on also having a Hole in one on the 12th.
The junior completion was a family scramble which produced three top teams only separated by one stroke. Winners were Michael Woods & Michael Hoey gross 29 closely followed by Cian Warren & Ciaran Hoey gross 30 and also Ryan Cromwell & Connor Woods gross 30.
Winner or the Junior putting competition was Ciaran Hoey with two from three.
Ladies are reminded that Friday nights 7pm is the ladies night.

The Sunday game this week was a pairs scramble and produced amazing scores considering the current dry spell we are having which makes it very difficult to hold the ball on the greens.

The Easter competition kindly sponsored by Gerrardstown Stud proved to be a very close battle between a field of 22 compeditors.
With excellent conditions for playing pitch and putt light wind and sunshine the course was more challenging now that we have had three weeks of dry weather.
James Browne put in a fantastic Net 46 to clinch the first prize with RU Sue Browne Net 47 only the smallest margin separating these two players.
Nearest the pin on the third hole was won by Tony [Bats] Masterson.

Congratulations to local athlete Cian Delaney following his success in the European Duathlon Championships in Limerick with a 3rd place in his race which was a 2nd in his age group.
The Sunday game of singles produced some very close results with Tommy McCann winning with a Net 50 [back nine count] from RU Anthony Parkinson Net 50. Top lady was Sue Browne with a Net 53.

The most fantastic weather across the country with blistering sunshine gave us a fantastic morning in Ballyboughal on the Pitch & Putt course.
The game of singles produced a first time winner Anthony Parkinson with a fantastic Net 46 to win by two strokes from RU Pat Hickey on Net48.
Sunday games continue at 11am evening games on Wednesday at 7pm great for beginners who can play in scramble with some experienced players.

Happy mother’s day to all the mammy’s and there was a great turnout for the Sunday game.
This week we played a pairs scramble with one team of three who were restricted to two putts once on the green.
Winners with a fantastic 44 gross ten under par were Vince Walker, Sue Browne and Frank Hughes well done to the three ball.
Congratulations to Jimmy Browne on a hole in one on the Fourth.
With the evenings picking up to be nice and bright, evening games are being played from 6.30pm each evening.

What a fabulous weekend of weather and this morning was no exception the best Sunday of the year so far and some players were even playing in tee shirts.

After a cool start and light wind the game produced some fantastic sores so early in the season.

The 2011 AGM took place in St Patrick’s Hall at 11am with great turnout of members for the meeting. The new committee elected for 2011 are Ronnie Delaney, Orla Gannon, Marie Delaney, Maura Lynch, Liam Farrelly, Rory Homan, Liz Walton and Caitriona Hoey.
This weeks Sunday game was the first singles game of 2011 and was won by Vince Walker Net45 with RU Jimmy Browne Net46.
Congratulation to John Fitzpatrick on his Hole in One on the 11th.
Sunday singles game will continue each week at 11am.
The first club major for 2011 will be the O’Connor Cup on St Patrick’s Day.

Seventeen braved this slightly bitter spring morning to play a game in the high wind and light mist by times, but by 11.15am the mist had cleared. Conditions made the course play that little bit extra long and putting even became a chore.
This weeks winners in a four ball with a fantastic 10 under 44 were Ronnie Delaney, John Fitzpatrick, Sue Browne and Richard Monks.
AGM 2011 is next Sunday 27th at 11am in St Patrick’s Hall. Nominations for the committee to be given to the secretary by Monday 21st Feb contact 01-8433700.

Definitely a spring fresh morning and by 11am the sun was peaking through the clouds to give a nice touch of heat on this fresh morning.
A very competitive three ball scramble with winners Jimmy Browne, Tommy McCann and Ann McDonnell with a great eight under par 46.
This was a very closely contested game with the runners up with a 47 only one shot off the mark.

Another perfect day for P&P and the course is in really great condition and after drying up considerably well. Apart from the bitter westerly light breeze this would have been a perfect morning for playing. All said there was a great turnout and it is fantastic to see so many people enjoying themselves while taking in a bit of exercise.
This weeks winners with a tremendous eight under par 46 was Jimmy Browne and John Fitzpatrick, well done lads.
The winners didn’t have it all their own way they won by the smallest margin with two 47’s and two 48’s hot on their heels.

A very cold Sunday morning but we had three three balls and a four ball out to play some great P&P. Some great scores recorded once again with Net 45 equal to last weeks winners not good enough this week.
This weeks winning score is a course record for a scramble game with the team of Billy O’Brien, John Fitzpatrick, Pat Hickey and Nick Savage taking the spoils with a fantastic 41.
This was indeed a fantastic score with thirteen birdies in the game.

Great start to the new year with a beautiful mild dry morning with light wind gave us almost perfect conditions for P&P.
A good turnout for the first Sunday game of the new year.
We had six scramble teams out with some really good scores been recorded.
Two net 47’s and a 46 was not good enough to win this morning.
The winning team of Vince Walker, John Fitzpatrick, Nick Savage and Ann McDonnell recorded a fantastic 45 on the day.

With the weather improving we expect to re-open the course next Sunday 16th Jan weather permitting. There is allot of rain forcasted and if it is really wet we will have to hold off another week.
The course at present is in great condition considering the hammering it took over the Xmas.
Many thanks to our groundsman Joe and members Vince & Bridget for the work over the past couple of weeks keeping the place in the beautiful condition it is in.

What a week in the country with freezing temperatures with us now for a full week. Checking the weekend we had temp of -5 and -6 about the village with no sing of any of the snow clearing.
Unfortunately we had to cancel the big turkey scramble we will have to organise earlier next year even though we anticipated

that we may have to cancel due to rain of frost no one could have predicted the worst snow since Jan 1982.
Next weekend we will play the last Sunday turkey doubles game weather permitting at 11am.
Winners of turkeys can collect their prizes next Sunday.
Reminder that the 2010 Carol service will take place in the Church Ballyboughal on Wed 15th December starting at 7.30pm everyone is welcome.

No Play this weekend as the country is caught in covered in a blanket of snow and ice.
We woke up Saturday morning to a whitened course with the temperatures not rising al day and continued snow showers through Sat night we have to postpone all activities until next week.

First sign that Christmas is coming we played the first of a series of Sunday Games for Xmas Turkeys. A great turnout on the morning and we played a doubles scramble.
Some very impressive score cards on the day with four pairs on four under 50 and three with three under 51’s but the winners this week after a round of 26 and 23 great back nine and a win with five under was, Jimmy Browne & Richard Monks.
Sunday games will continue each week for turkey at 11am.
Monster Turkey scramble day on Saturday 4th December at 2pm all welcome it will be a three ball game with everyone having a chance to win a festive bird.

Ladies cup day and very generously sponsored by Bill & Peg O’Neill from the village.
A fantastic day was had by all with the weather being so kind to us with glorious sunshine all day.

This years Cup winner was Marrion Murray with a truly great Net47.
Marrion was very closely contested to the winners spot by Runner up Orla Gannon with a Net48.

This final major brings down the curtain on what was a fantastic year for the club following a year where we held twelve major competitions for the adults and celebrated our 40th anniversary having being established in 1970.

The Sunday game continued this morning with the course really in top form following the Jones cup major last weekend.
This week we had a three ball scramble and some fantastic card were recorded on the morning.
Winners were Billy O’Brien, Eddie Madden and Bridget Murray with a fantastic 44 gross.
Tomorrow is the October bank holiday Monday and the Ladies cup will be contested at 3pm.

Following a thrilling weekend of pitch & putt with the weather all in our favour some fantastic scores were recorded and the smallest of a margin separated the top two net players by one stroke.
John Fitzpatrick had overnight lead with a net 46 closely followed by Ann Ryan on a net 48, this was shaping up for a really competitive second days play with fresh sunshine and moderate winds.
After 36 holes and two days play the results could not have been predicted and the overnight leader board had been turned around with some great results on Sundays play.

Another great weekend of weather staying fine in spite of the Ryder cup being rained off several times over the weekend.
The Sunday game produced a thriller with four Net 46 cards for the morning the winner decided on a back nine count. Vince Walker was the Net winner and also took the top gross with his four under par gross 50 round.
Next Weekend the last final Mickey Mouse for the year will take place on the Sunday afternoon 10th October starting at 3pm. All ladies are encouraged to take part in this finale of the Ladies Summer Monday Nights.
The final major for all members
Jones Cup with a prize fund of €150 will take place on the weekend of 17th October. The game will be over 36 holes with play on the Saturday 16th and Sunday17th October commencing at 2pm each day.
Ladies cup day will be held on the October bank holiday Monday 25th October commencing at 2pm.

Runner Up was Golf Capt. Tim Brookes, Joe Browne, Ollie Durnan and Ronnie Delaney net 56.

This was a great day out for the club with many of the P&P players having their first taste of a golf course. It was a very good initiative to match up a golfer with two P&P players to make the teams as everyone agreed it was a fantastic days entertainment.
