European Neighbours Day 2010

From Budapest to Brussels, from London to Lisbon, millions of people will be participating in events across Europe to celebrate European Neighbours Day on the 28h of May.  And in Dublin it will be no different with activities taking place around the City over a week long period.

Through the Community Development Section, residents have been encouraged to host a wide variety of events to celebrate goodwill, reduce barriers of isolation and develop a better sense of community in our neighbourhoods

Events Taking place *

Unity & Community Day 

Venue: St. Patrick’s National School

Date: Wednesday, 26th May

Time: 1.00pm. 

Variety Show 

Venue: Artane/Beaumont Recreation Centre

Date: Wednesday 26th May

Time: 7.30pm

A Variety Show featuring The Artane Band, Maryfield Variety Group, Turnaround, SwiftSkills Hip Hop, Cheerfusion, Kelly Mac and many more great acts will take place at Artane/Beaumont Recreation Centre.

‘Let’s Walk & Talk - Crumlin: The Crooked Glen’

Venue: Meet at Crumlin Area Office

Date:  Thursday 27th May

Time: 2.00pm 

This historical walking tour will be followed by tea & scones and a recital by the children from St. Agnes Primary school at Father Kitt Court.

Neighbours’ Day Intercultural Event

Venue: Ringsend & District Community Centre

Date: Thursday 27th May

Time: From 7.00pm

Neighbours Day Soccer Blitz Competition

Venue: Cabra Parkside Sports Centre

Date: Thursday 27th May

Time: 7.00pm

The annual Neighbours Day Soccer Blitz/Competition for Boys/Girls aged 10-13yrs old. Event organised by DCC community and sports development staff in partnership with the FAI.

Plant Sales

Venue: Various

Date: Friday 28th May

Time: 11.00am.

Plant Sales will take place at the following locations: Claremont Estate, North Circular Road, Infirmary Road, Cabra, Royal Canal Park, Cabra Road, Great Western Square, Stoneybatter Sitric Road, Blackhorse Grove. Contact Paul Smyth on 222 7406 for times.

‘Let’s Walk & Talk – Finglas: An Historic & Connected Place’

Venue:Meet at Finglas Civic Centre

Date: Friday 28th May

Time: 11.00am.

Meet at Finglas Civic Centre. To follow the tour, the Finglas Area Office will also be hosting a traditional music session and providing refreshments at Finglas Youth Resource Centre. There will also be various information stands on display at the centre, which will promote services for older people.

Drop in Day

Venue: Macro Centre

Date: Friday 28th May

Time:: daytime

Macro Senior Citizens will be holding a Drop in Day, serving Tea/Coffee and promoting ‘be a good neighbour’.

Finale to Dance Arias

Venue: Mansion House (Round Room)

Date: Sunday 30th May

Time:: 3.00pm

a dance & opera extravaganza for over 55s, organised by Dublin City Council and Coiscéim Dance Theatre.

Venue: Cabra (Round Room)

Date: Sunday 31st May

Time:: 12 noon

Another suburban ‘Let’s Walk & Talk’ tour with historian, Pat Liddy.

Shandon Pitch n’ Putt Club Open Day

Venue: Shandon Pitch n Putt Club

Date: Wednesday 2nd June

Time:: all day

Shandon Pitch n’ Putt Club Open Day will take place to celebrate Neighbours Day at the club.
