"Getting Started" Programme

dcc, age actionPossibly the most successful outcome from the Dublin City Council's Digital Inclusion Project has been the training of the residents of Sheltered Housing Complexes under the " Getting Started Programme ".

Dublin City Council’s Initiative on Ageing and Older People “Positive Steps” had a stated objective that the Council would “Facilitate the development of ICT skills for older people, raise awareness of the potential of ICT and how it can be used to assist every older person in their home, social and work lives.”

The Getting Started programme was developed jointly between Dublin City Council  and Age Action Ireland  to provide older persons with the opportunity to develop their ICT skills and to ensure that they are not left behind in this technological age. Training is provided by volunteers who teach the students in the basics of PC usage, e-mail and the Internet.

With the addition of a new mobile service CLiC is set to serve the communities of Dublin city.

CLiC mobile

Building on the excellent work taking place in CLiC centres across Dublin, CLiC mobile gets to where computers are needed but where a centre is not available. CLiC mobile works with those sections of our community which find it difficult to attend a local centre. Due to the many reasons why this may be so, CLiC mobile will visit Sheltered Housing, Refuges and day Centres, allowing greater access to a range of computer based courses for those who are marginalised.

Fast Track to IT The Dublin Community ICT Programme was the single largest programme funded by the Department of the Taoiseach under the ASC (Access, Skills and Content) Initiative in 2007. It aimed to strengthen ICT skills in, and the ICT infrastructures of, disadvantaged communities and specific target groups of interest in the greater Dublin area.

The programme was led by Dublin Employment Pact in partnership with FIT.

The initiative provided ICT training to 2,000 people using the FIT e-Cert programme and ICT equipment to community centres, centres of independent living for people with disabilities and centres providing training and support to older people.
