Community Training Workshops

BoysThe FAS Community Training workshops are aimed primarily at school-leavers in need of basic vocational training. They play a big part in the Youth Reach Program.

FÁS Dublin North provides a diverse range of services to enable participants to receive specific skills training or updating of existing skills which are matched to the needs of local employers. An important objective set out in 1999 and continued during the year 2000 was to improve access for long term unemployed people into the FÁS Training Centres. To this end, in 2000 Dublin North developed the 'Connections' programme which is specifically designed to ensure that long-term unemployed people can access any specific skills course in the Dublin North region.

Community Training Programmes are targeted at unemployed people aged 17+ and are designed to provide the participants with a range of personal and job specific skills with the aim of helping them procure employment. The training provided takes many forms and varies from the building and restoration of Community and Heritage centers to Information Technology projects which produce Community Newsletters.
