Drug Awareness and Information
More people use amphetamines (speed) and ecstasy in Ireland than in any other European country, a report from the United Nations has found. The report, 'Global Illicit Drug Trends 2002', found that in Ireland, almost three in four people in treatment for drug problems are being treated for opiate (heroin) use, while just over 16% of people are in treatment for cannabis use. In Dublin, heroin is the primary drug of use for over 90% of people in treatment. The Irish rate of drug deaths is now twice the EU average.
