Louie Bennett [1870-1956] helped to reorganise the IWWU after 1916. She was of the Irish Women’s Reform League and briefly edited the Irish Citizen in 1917. She was general secretary of the IWWU from 1918 until her retirement in 1955. In 1932 she became the first woman president of the ITUC.
