    Talking I Miss Finglas

[V]I am a Finglas girl living in Manchester Uk and there is not a day goes by that I dont think of home. Finglas. I miss from going for a drink in the bottom of the hill to getting a tray with onions from the chinese in the village, to summer nights taking a walk down the river, to getting 'batch bread and jam sambos in me nanas as soon as i arrive on the doorstep (after a kiss hello with some happy tears) to go with a nice cup of tea, which may i might add the chinese founded and the english mastered but the irish make it quite like no-one else.

I love dublin and finglas and my memories of childhood and my teenage years are like a happy whirlwind dream full of laughs and tears but all memories are crazy and funny.

I remember getting the 42a back to the top of wellmount rd, buckled, singing and laughing so hard after a night in the appartments when i was 16 that i got sick on a horse asleep in the field at the side of dunns.

But the best of all was sitting in the Cardiff with me nan and grandad on a sat afternoon having a pint of bud when nan would come in from getting her hair done and through the day more and more of the family would come in, some after football, some after work, some for a hair of the dog from a crazy night before and by the end of the night we would all be the singing songs the older ones singing 'the town i loved so well' and us younger ones singing 'crazy world' by aslan. And it is. WHEN YOU GO TO FINGLAS. [;)]

I have to agree. Finglas is brilliant. I lived in Finglas for 2 years, and loved it. I am from Kildare, but I lived in Dublin for over 5 years, living in several parts of the North-side, but Finglas is a place I could call home! I made some great friends in Finglas. I miss going to the Drake and the 'Shilling at the weekend. Also I have to say the best looking women I have ever seen were in Finglas - especially the 'Shilling on a Saturday night!!!. I left Finglas 2 years ago to move to London, and when I move back to Ireland it will be to Finglas!

....you must have a very popular family!!!
I find that where ever I go in the world I meet people from Finglas....

I was reading in the Irish Post last week that Finglas has been selected to have a 24 hour Tesco - very handy when your falling home from town!!!

    Hey all,

I'm a finglas girl too - living in London right now. Just come back from Dublin & it has changed so much (including Finglas) The swimming pool has been knocked down for Dublin Corporation offices & WFTA has closed down - I couldn't believe it - many a saturday & sunday mornings I would go to WFTA with me Irish dancin frock on & ringlets in me hair to bounce about to ballai luimnigh....

Ah well, Hoi won still do the 3 in 1's !!!! & they are still fab!!
The Shilling is still the place to be & all the other old favourite from the villiage are still there .. O'Riardans, the Shamrock, the bottom of the hill, the drake

Did any of you guys go to St Michaels Holy Faith? - if so, I would love to hear from you.....
    Slan xx
