    Hi all
    where is arthurs lane...i think its near whitefrier street?

    any info would help

    I gave this info earlier to our friend Bridge on the 1798 Map Thread.

    Arthur's Lane pre 1798 later became Golden Lane From Sir Thos. Arthur, lessee from the Earl of Longford, of the Whitefriars estate.
    Called Maiden Lane, 1766.

    Yes;Turn right off Patrick Street down Bull Alley St past the old Iveagh Baths,cross Bride St, and your in Golden Lane.
    Don't think it looks the same though.lol.

    It all makes sense now...hubbys family all came from that area...untill they stayed in aungier street for a long while with their tin smith business..Thanks again

    hi damntheweather - arthurs lane was not golden lane - you are right it was originally called maiden lane in the early 1700's and called arthurs lane after thomas arthurs a doctor from limerick, i think. but golden lane was there long before that. golden lane originally called crosse lane, is still there and no it does not look like it did all of the tenements are gone, there are new houses there and the radisson hotel and fancy office blocks and apartments. arthurs lane was demolished in 1970's and when new houses were built there it was renamed john field road after the composer john field who was born in nearby golden lane.

    Thanks Bridge...dates making more sense but where is it or was located....the family traded under cahill tinsmiths, j cahill& son and Leinster tin works...then some went northside....cahill metal works,when southside all around whitefrier street and aungier street....would the streets that all have mentioned now be one area?

    Interesting to see your source ?.What Arthurs Lane was demolished in 1970 ?
