Wildlife
Dublin City has a rich and varied biodiversity. 28 of the 33 species of Irish mammals are found within just 20km of O'Connell Bridge. The City has a variety of habitats and ecosystems such as nature reserves, Dublin Bay, parks, streets, canals (such as the Royal and
Grand Canals
), buildings, gardens, beaches (such as Sandymount and Dollymount Strands), community gardens and rivers. Some of these are so important that they have been designated as bird sanctuaries, UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, Wetlands of International Importance and Special Amenity Areas.
