Water Butts

Water-ButtA water butt allows for the collection of rainwater from your roof and downpipes. The rainwater can then be used for watering plants in your garden. The water butt has a capacity of 190 litres and is made from 100% recycled plastic.

The water butt consists of a stand, a barrel (water butt), a tamper proof lid, a tap and a diverter. The water butt sits on the stand, which provides a steady base and allows you to easily fill a watering can from the tap, which is located at the base of the water butt. Note: The diverter fits the standard 68mm round and 65mm square plastic downpipes. The water butt is not recommended for use with cast iron downpipes.

The water butt is designed so that it will not overflow. When the water level reaches the diverter, water will flow straight through the down pipe instead of into the water butt.

Dublin City Council are selling water butts on a pilot basis. Water butts cost €40 on a collection only basis and can be purchased from the following locations:
