Older Persons Focus Group

Older Persons with borderThis Focus Group was initially set up to provide a community input to the “Dublin City Sub Group on Older People”, which includes representatives from a variety of organisations, including Dublin City Council’s Community Development Section, the Health Service Executive (HSE), Age Action, An Garda Síochána, and the Citizens Information Board. Úna Uí Lachtnáin is the Dublin Community Forum representative on “The Dublin City Sub Group for Older people”.

The development of the “Dublin City Sub Group on Older People” was one of the recommendations of the “Lord Mayor’s Initiative on Ageing and Older People”, which took place in 2007 under the direction of Cllr Vincent Jackson, the then Lord Mayor. Ageing and Older People

The “Dublin City Sub Group on Older People” will initially concentrate on three main themes -

  • Transport
  • Leisure
  • “Seven-day” services

With a view to informing their work, The Sub Group recently met with members of the HSE and the Casino Community Forum who have already carried out a survey of local residents around these issues called “Living in Marino/Fairview – Activities, Support and Services for Older People”.

The Dublin Community Forum’s Older Persons’ Focus Group currently consists of representatives from the following groups/organisations:

  • D12 60s Forum
  • Finglas Old Folks Group
  • Donaghmede Estate Residents Association
  • Ringsend Active Retirement Association
  • Active Retirement Association
  • Active Retirement Ireland
  • Ballyfermot Partnership Co Ltd
  • Irish Senior Citizens Parliament
  • Pobal Chluain Tarbh

The first meeting of the Older Persons’ Focus Group is scheduled to took place in September.
