Environmental Focus Group

Environmental Focus Group The Environmental Focus Group (EFG) was established in May 2002 and consists of members from various voluntary organisations. The EFG's work to date has been the election of officers, the formulation of annual work plans, and the production of an Environmental Directory. This Directory involved extensive research and records over 600 contact details of groups and individuals involved in environmental issues in the Dublin area. The Environmental Directory was launched earlier this year and can be downloaded below. ie Lamh Services volunteered to plant eight one year old Sessile Oaks in Knocksink Woods to replace the paper used in producing the green directory.

The Environmental Focus Group have just published The Dublin City Guide to Community Gardening. The Guide includes information on the practicalities of setting up a garden from finding a site to getting public liability insurance. There is a list of resources as well as contact details for community gardening groups already in existence, and often the best way to start a new garden is to visit one that’s already up and running.

Cllr Dermot Lacey officially launched Dublin’s Green Guide on Saturday, 24th November in Dublin City Council’s Civic Offices. The Environmental Focus Group of the Dublin Community Forum identified the need for a user-friendly guide, which would provide brief information, useful contact details and references to encourage and help those living in Dublin to take positive and practical actions to protect and conserve their environment in every day life.
We hope this publication will both encourage and aid Dublin’s Citizens in doing this.
The Guide is the result of the hard work of members of the Environmental Focus Group over the years.

In response to this need, the Dublin Community Forum Environmental Focus Group commissioned new research into all the groups active in environmental protection in the Dublin City area. The research has resulted in the publication of the first Dublin City Environmental Directory, which provides details of 369 groups that are engaged in environmental activity in Dublin.
The Environmental Focus Group has planted a sufficient number of trees to replace the paper used in producing this publication . It is hoped that the directory will prove to be an invaluable resource if you want to find out who is doing what, link up with partner groups, keep informed about environmental activities and make Dublin a Greener City - one of the fifteen priorities of the DCDB's City of Possibilities 2002-2012 - An Economic, Social and Cultural Strategy.
