Irish Childcare Policy

Child Care Act, 1991

The Child Care Act of 1991 was written into the Irish Statute books to promote the welfare of children in Ireland under various headings: in care, in welfare, in pre-schools, in care of the health boards and in residential centres.

Children Act, 2001

The Children Act 2001 provides a new framework for the development of juvenile justice with an emphasis away from residential and custodial care, to care in the community’ declared Minister for State with Special Responsibility for Children, Mr. Brian Lenihan TD. The National Children's Office have been appointed the implementing body of the Children Act.
