Children's Rights and Child Protection

The Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted and opened for signature, ratification and accession by General Assembly resolution 44/25 of 20 November 1989. It entered into force on 2 September 1990, in accordance with article 49. Ireland ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the 28th of September, 1992.

The Irish Government reaffirmed Children's Rights through The National Children's Strategy 'Our Children - Their Lives' which stated, “Children will have a voice in matters which affect them and their views will be given due weight in accordance with their age and maturity." Children can now have their say through Dáil na nÓg (Youth parliament).
