Dublin City Council Libraries
The art of storytelling, whether in the oral tradition or more modern animation form, is held in high esteem in both Irish and Chinese culture. Dublin City Public Libraries will host a number of free Animation Workshops and Storytelling Sessions in selected branch libraries during DCNYF. Chinese stories and crafts sessions will take place in several libraries including;
Ringsend Library
on Thursday 3rd February at 3.00pm and
Inchicore Library
on Thursday 10th February at 3.00pm
Award-winning animator Eimhin McNamara will conduct 10 Animation Workshops in libraries around Dublin City, starting with
Walkinstown Library
on Tuesday 1st February at 3.00pm - and continuing with Finglas Library on Wednesday 2nd February at 3.00pm
Coolock Library
on Saturday 5th February at 11.00am The
Central Library
on Saturday 12th February at 2.00pm
Storyteller Aideen McBride will entertain school children at four libraries with stories from the Chinese and Irish traditions.
All events are free, but booking is strongly advised as places are limited. Check at your local library for full details and to book your place.
The
Library Learning Bus
(otherwise known as the Big Blue Bus) will also be at Wolfe Tone Square on Saturday 5th February for the Dublin Chinese New Year Carnival. There will be storytelling, crafts and animation. The full schedule is;

All workshops and story sessions will be filled on a 'first come, first served' basis. All events are free of charge and all materials will be provided. We will try to stick as closely as possible to this schedule, but due to unforseen circumstances, last minute changes might have to be made to the schedule.

Dublin City Gallery the Hugh Lane
- Saturday 5 February, 3-4pm
Come celebrate the Chinese New Year with the Hugh Lane! This year it’s the year of the Rabbit. In China they use big bright red dragons in their street celebrations. Artist Janine Davidson will lead you in an oriental flavored workshop where you can make your very own red dragon.

Chester Beatty Library
• Saturday 5 February 2-3.30pm make your own lotus flower with artist Claire Crone. Suitable for 6-11 year olds, free.
• Friday 11 February 12-4pm for adults. Chinese paper cutting workshop with artist Claire Crone.
• Sunday 13 February 2-3pm for everyone – mah jong demonstration with the multi-ethnic community. No booking required, free.
