Dublin City Council Housing Services
Dublin City Council Housing Authority provides housing for people in Dublin who cannot afford their own home need somewhere to live. This is achieved under different schemes throughout the city. Housing is allocated based on need and rents are charged based on income, household size and special circumstances. If you think you qualify, please check out Dublin City Council's Housing Department.
Some schemes available under from the Housing Authority include:
- The Affordable Housing Scheme,
- The Rental Accomodation Scheme,
- The Shared Ownership Scheme.
The Affordable Housing Scheme was set up to help first time buyers on lower incomes to aquire housing in Dublin City Council's administrative area. The houses in the scheme are built on land owned by Dublin City Council on a non-profit basis.
The Rental Accomodation Scheme is a scheme which was set up to provide further good quality homes for people in reciept of rent supplement for more than 18 months. The scheme aims to help with the problem of meeting the need for long-term housing in the city. Under the scheme, the Housing Authority enters into a long-term contract agreement with a landlord to pay full rent of a property on behalf of a tenant , even if the property is vacant. The tenant will then contribute to the rent by paying it to the Housing Authority.
The Shared Ownership Scheme means a person who cannot afford to buy a house on their own income buys a house in conjunction with the City Council. The person then pays the mortgage for their part of the home as well as rent to the City Council for their share at a rate of 4.3%. The person must buy a proportion of at least 40% of the property.
